CAMP INSTRUCTORS

The most important part of our camps is the team of instructors we have running the activities and ensuring the safety of all the children. Therefore all of our camps have a ratio of at least 1 instructor for every 6 children. Our staff have all had an enhanced DBS check, and there is at least one qualified first aider on each camp. Chosen for their energy and experience, below are the profiles of all our instructors.

Toby Pease

The camp leader for the Summer 2016 camp, Toby believes that every child should get the opportunity to experience nature and enjoy the outdoors in a vibrant and exciting way. Very approachable and adaptable, he has led groups of children in places as far afield as Australia and Spain. He has also previously run activity days right here in the North East and he loves the large team games (or wide games) that North East Adventure Camps is all about! Toby is also a fully qualified First Aider.

Emily Billington

Having completed a channel-length swim at the age of 17, Emily is our water-dwelling instructor! A fully qualified lifeguard, she has taught swimming for a number of years, as well as leading children’s activities on the land in a Spanish holiday resort. A marathon-runner and former England youth netball player, Emily is super-active and loves the outdoors. She has just returned from a year working with children in Spain and she is fully qualified in First Aid.

Andrew Corbin

A scout since the age of 6, Andrew has experienced all sorts of outdoor adventure, giving him a (figurative) encyclopaedia of camp games. His love of singing and playing guitar are perfectly suited to the warmth of the camp fire. He has over 10 years’ experience doing voluntary work with children, and is currently studying for a PhD in civil engineering meaning he has plenty of handy tips for shelter-building!

Kat Rowland

A keen sportswoman, Kat has completed D of E and is heavily involved in outdoor activities including hiking, running, rounders, netball and Frisbee. She also has a performing arts side, and has taught dance and singing to youngsters following her own success in plays such as Cats, Chicago and Wicked (to name but a few) with the Stagecoach Musical Theatre. Kat has bucket-loads of energy and loves taking on nature with the Girl Guides and on other outdoor challenges.

Sarah Clark

Having fallen in love with camping as a youngster, Sarah brings loads of enthusiasm and energy to the table. Previous work in a school, where she was engaged in encouraging interaction between children with low self-esteem, means she is very aware of the importance of inclusivity on our camps. As an active runner and netball player, she really enjoys all of the fun competitive games we do on our camps. Sarah is also qualified in Paediatric First Aid.

Liam Nattrass

Originating in Bishop Auckland, Liam has been involved with scouting for 10 years and is now training to become a leader. He does a range of activities like rock-climbing and kayaking whenever possible, and loves sharing his passion for adventure with the younger generation. Liam’s vast knowledge of camp-craft skills coupled with his experience in all sorts of outdoor settings makes him an excellent role model for adventure-seeking children to follow.

Danielle Andrews

A multi award-winning dancer herself, Danielle has taught in a dance school for almost 5 years. With her bright and bubbly personality, she worked tirelessly as a Teaching Assistant in Yorkshire for a year which led her to begin studying to become a primary school teacher herself. Her enthusiasm and energy when working with children makes her such an approachable and friendly instructor. Danielle is also a fantastic cook with plenty of advice to help make camp food delicious!

Ellie Curwen

Growing up in the Lake District, Ellie has loved the outdoors from an early age. Also a keen skier, she has experienced her own outdoor challenges all over the mountains of Europe. She has done work in three different schools and is currently studying primary education here in the North East. By combining her love of outdoor adventure with her passion for childcare, Ellie adds experience and energy to our team.

Rory Tredwell

A bit of an all-rounder, Rory has worked with children in a range of settings. Having previously played rugby at a high level, he went on to teach sports and outdoor activities in Australia straight after leaving school. He also volunteered for three years helping children learn how to cook and this, coupled with his time in Australia, makes him our resident BBQ expert! Finally, he is a keen guitarist and singer which is fantastic in the evenings when we relax round the campfire.
